Rainfall Impact on Roads in Dubai and Sharjah

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) advises travelers to verify their routes and road conditions before embarking on their journeys, especially following the unprecedented rainfall that hit the UAE on April 16 and 17.

Despite significant efforts by concerned entities, including the RTA and Dubai Municipality, to restore normalcy on the roads, several routes remain partially closed due to waterlogging and flooding.

Key Roads Affected as of 2pm, April 18:

• Sheikh Zayed Road: Sections between Town Square and Mall of Emirates, and Downtown Jebel Ali to Dubai Parks and Resorts are partially closed.
• Al Khail Road: Partial closure from Dubai Hills Mall to Jumeriah Village Circle.
• Al Ittehad Road: Closed in both directions between Dubai and Sharjah.
• Mohammed Bin Zayed Road: Partially closed from International City to Dubai Silicon Oasis.
• Manara Street, Umm AL Suqeim Street, First Al Khail Road, Rabbat Street, Beirut Street: All partially closed.
• Service and Arterial Roads near The Gardens, Discover Garden, Ibne-Battua Mall: Partial closures in effect.
• Mohammed Bin Zayed Road: Near Expo City Dubai, partially closed.
• Sharjah Roads: Al Wahada Street, Al Khan Street, Jamal Abdul Nasser Street, Kind Abdul Aziz Street, and Al Qasimia Street are closed. Additionally, most streets in Sharjah Industrial areas are closed due to flooding.

Resumed Services:

RTA has confirmed the return to regular service for certain routes on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro, spanning from ‘centrepoint’ to ‘Dubai Internet City’ and from ‘Jabal Ali’ to ‘Expo 2020’. Green Line services, from ‘etisalat by e &’ to ‘Abu Hail’ and from ‘Creek’ to ‘Al Ras’, have also resumed. Efforts are underway to restore service to the remaining stations and lines.

Sheikh Zayed Road Update:

Sheikh Zayed Road is accessible from Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout to Intersection 9 heading towards Abu Dhabi. However, travelers should anticipate delays due to water accumulation in certain lanes.

Taxi and Public Transport Services:

Taxi and public bus services have returned to normal, with efforts ongoing to minimize disruptions and adapt to the challenging weather conditions.

Dubai Tram and Metro Operations:

The Dubai Tram is operating smoothly on its regular schedule, with all stations functioning at full capacity. Metro services are also running normally at specific stations, with bus services available for commuting between affected stations.

Vehicle Inspection and Customer Happiness Centres:

Operations have resumed as usual at Vehicle Inspection Centres and Customer Happiness Centres.
