The Kia EV6 has been all over the news lately, and for good reason. It is one of the latest and most promising-looking EV currently in the market. Compared to what the world saw just over a decade ago, the current market landscape beckons the growth of electric vehicles across all spectrums of transportation. Emerging as one of the leaders in the automotive industry, Kia has gone on to become a major presence in each market that it has entered. Similarly, crossover SUVs have been moneymakers for their respective companies. With the all-new EV6, what Kia has done is combine the magical terms “EV” and “crossover” into one product.

Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), Kia’s first-ever fully-dedicated electric vehicle platform is state-of-the-art in every aspect. Of course, with a product this modern and anticipated, the EV6 will set the stone for Kia as a powerful nameplate when it comes to electric vehicles. As with any car these days, safety is one of those factors that simply cannot be overlooked – even more so if you want it to sell well across North America and Europe. And if you want the Kia EV6 to impress people, what better way than to have it undergo and pass one of the strictest safety regiments in the world – Euro NCAP.

In its recent Euro NCAP crash tests, the Kia EV6 scored 90 percent for adult occupant protection, 86 percent on child occupant protection, and 87 percent in the so-called “safety assist” category. To help with its challenging endeavor, the all-new Kia EV6 is equipped with several safety features. Then there is also the case of other road users, which also takes into account pedestrians – here, the Kia EV6 has returned a score of 64 percent. For starters, the EV6 gets an Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system.

Essentially, AEB works in tandem with an array of sensors and even cameras to constantly scan the road ahead of you. If it detects a vehicle or a pedestrian, the system will alert the driver first, and if it senses that a collision is imminent, the car will automatically apply the brakes to try and mitigate the worst-case scenario. Moreover, the EV6 also boasts a Multi-Collision Braking (MCB) system, which puts on the brakes for the second time (post the first collision) in order to prevent any serious effects from a secondary impact. After all that, there’s the eCall system, which will automatically alert emergency services in case of an accident.

Some of the other safety nannies that will protect the occupants of the Kia EV6 include Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems, along with 7 airbags (including center airbags that help protect people upfront from hitting each other’s’ heads during an impact), and a passenger compartment that has been made with over 63-percent ultra-high tensile steel. While such factors are often glossed over, a safe passenger compartment that stays in shape (aka maintains its integrity) even post a bad collision. In fact, the torsional rigidity of this EV is pretty good, scoring 48.5 units (of something very important, I’m sure). On many fronts then, the all-new Kia EV6 truly wins top trumps (if you were to play one).

The all-new EV6 is set to create a new chapter not only for Kia but also for the whole premium EV market as a whole. In the UAE, the Kia EV6 will be coming to a showroom near you, though it possibly won’t be cheap. Furthermore, Kia is set to launch even more all-electric models in various markets, one of which will be the UAE. Exciting times ahead for sure.
